SOS BOYS AT AFCON
By
Mulenga Chibwe – Youth Leader Lusaka
In February 2008, two boys, Moses Kunda and Gift
Nyambe from SOS Children’s Village Lusaka, traveled to Ghana to be
Player Escorts at the African Cup of Nations (AFCON). The trip was
sponsored by Stanbic Bank Zambia Ltd as they were also the official
Sponsors for the AFCON. Moses and Gift were among a group of other from
other countries.
They left for Ghana on February 1st with mother Scholastica
Kalyabanyama and returned on 5th February. On return the
children could not hide their excitement as they were interviewed. The
boys said it was an exciting time for them as they were able to see
football players they have only seen on television and were living in a
hotel they never imaged to live in. Above it all, were able to fly on a
plane in the first class… the boys also recall nice foods they were
being served.
More so, they were taken for shopping around the city and had an
opportunity to visit and see their brothers and sisters (Howard,
Ezekiel, Alex, Clarence, Paul, Aston, Mukonka, Idah and Justina) at the
Herman Gmeiner International College (HGIC) in Tema.
All in all, the boys and the mother and SOS Zambia as a whole are very
grateful to Stanbic Bank for the opportunity and their generosity.
