A SECOND
CHANCE FOR ESNART
By Paul
Katati – F S P Coordinator, Livingstone
19 year old Esnart is a head of a
household in Libuyu township, Livingstone. She lives with her siblings –
Agnes (13 years old) and her son – Mutale aged 2 years old.
Esnart has had an average childhood.
Unfortunately, the loss of her parents meant that she had to take on a
role of a parent at the tender age of 15. Esnart and her siblings lost
their parents in quick succession in 2005 and 2006.
Esnart and her younger sister Agnes aged
13 who is in grade 5, and her son Mutale aged 2 years have continued to
live in the house their father built. Their brother Joseph aged 8 and
attending grade 2 was taken by a mother’s relative.
During the household recruitment exercise
in Libuyu compound, Livingstone, in November 2007, the Community Task
Force in Libuyu compound led the SOS Admissions Committee to Esnart’s
household for an assessment. In order to assist Esnart concentrate on
her education and to assist her look after the other children, the
household approved for full assistance and has since received the
initial assistance in the form of educational assistance.
Esnart hopes are that she would one day
become a Nurse so that she could secure her future and help others in
need. It is our sincere hope and trust that Esnart will continue to
exhibit the optimism and commitment she has with the programme as the
FSP helps to shape her and her siblings future in its quest to prevent
child abandonment.
